Whether you have already heard of him or not, Torstein Horgmo is an excellent athlete in the world of Men’s Snowboarding. He is one of the best snowboarders to come out of Norway in a long time. He has competed, and medalled in, a variety of big air snowboarding and slopestyle events. He rides regular stance and does it well!
Horgmo was born in Trondheim of Norway but eventually moved to the nearby town of Oslo. He began snowboarding at the twelves. However, he was no stranger to the slopes as he had been skiing for most of his life. It didn’t take long for him to bring in some wins after winning a gold medal in Snowboard Big Air at the 2008 Winter X Games XII in Aspen Colorado, beating out Kevin Pearce and Travis Rice.
During the Dew Tour of the 2009-2010 Winter season, he earned two place victories over Shaun White in slopestyle. At the Winter X Games in 2013 Hormo was the first person to successfully execute a switch backside triple cork 1440 in competition, earning him a perfect 50/50 as well as the gold medal in big air. While he did quality to compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he fell and broke his clavicle during practice. This forced him to miss out on that year’s Olympics.
Torstein Horgmo has an abundance of different sponsors, including DC Shoes, Oakley Inc, DNB ASA, GoPro and several others. In 2012, he recently released his very own film hilariously titled “Hormas – A Love Story.” This film chronicled his snowboarding career over a two year period. Him and fellow snowboarder Andreas opened up their own company, known as AWSM brand. Furthermore, he is also good friends with Mark McMorris. The pair has been spotted riding together several times.
