Sage Kotsenburg is an American snowboarder as well as one of the best breakthrough stars that the sport has seen in quite a while. He won his first-ever Olympic gold medal in men’s snowboard slopestyle at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia. In fact, he became the first gold medalist at these Olympics!
Some other rewards that he has been able to score with his impeccable talent include the silver medal in snowboard style at the 2012 Winter X Games XVI in Aspen, Colorado as well as the bronze medal in Snowboard Big Air at the 2011 Winter X Games XV, in Aspen, Colorado. So much success in such a short period of time is often rare to see, but Sage Kotsenburg executed it perfectly!
Kotsenburg was born in the rather small town of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. However, he grew up in Park, City Utah. He lived a pretty modest life, and his mother was a stay-at-home mother, and his father was a real estate agent. He has three siblings, including two older brothers and a younger sister. At the age of 5, his older brother Blaze began to teach him how to snowboard. It wasn’t long before him, and all three of his siblings were gliding down the slopes together.
Kotsenburg made his grand debut at the US Open when he was only 12 years old. Just four years later, he won the slopestyle silver at the European X Games 2010. In Innsbruck of 2011, he landed the first-ever Cab double cork 1440 at Air & Style. In addition, he took 3rd place at the 2011 Arctic Challenge and was named to the U.S Snowboarding Slopestyle Pro Team in 2011.
During the summer season, Kotensurb trains at High Cascade Snowboard Camp on Mt. hood. In Summer of 2014, he and his Lick Cat Crew were awarded a Signature Session. Hats off to Kotsenburg and his bright future in snowboarding!
