Bethany Hamilton is easily one of the top women in the sport of surfing. This is extremely phenomenal when you take into consideration that she survived a shark attack in 2003 that left her without a left arm. She became a true global inspiration after overcoming the attack and making her way right into the ocean.
In February of 2015, Hamilton revealed that she was planning on having her first child with husband Adam Dirks. Even while pregnant, she continued to pursue her love for surfing. However, on June 1, 2015, it was time for her to take a break from the waves to welcome her sweet son, whom she named Tobias.
Just three short months after giving birth for the first time, she picked up right where she left off: Riding some gnarly waves with tremendous strength and spirit. Hamilton was spotted soaring through waves on the tranquil coast of Hawaii while rocking a blue t-shirt and bikini. She turned and twisted with perfect control of her board.
As delighted as she was to welcome her son into the world, she was just as ecstatic to hop back on her board. When asked about how she felt after giving birth, she stated that she felt great and healthy! Hamilton also took the time to express women not to stress over regaining their pre-pregnancy bodies by saying, “It takes nine months for our bodies to change and grow. So I can say it’s alright to take your time, maybe about nine months, to get back to the new, healthy, beautiful, and normal you.”
Hamilton can’t wait to surf some more waves, but she is also more excited for her son to grow up so that she can teach him how to surf, as well. No matter what happens, he has got one tough momma to teach him all about the sport.
