When most people dream up the perfect surf destination, they imagine tropical beaches with soft sugar sand, palm trees shadowing against the sunset and a soft breeze dancing through the air. While this is in fact often the backbone to some of the best surfing destinations in the world, the Pacific Northwest has become more and more popular among surfers who are looking for something a little difference.
Surfing in Oregon, British Columbia, and Washington means yours are going to have to deal with cold, dark waters and unique scenery. Are you thinking about surfing in the Pacific Northwest? Here’s what you are going to need.
1. A Quality Wetsuit: A quality wetsuit is absolutely essential when braving these waters because it is going to be very cold. Northwest surfers opt for a hooded fullsuit at about 4-5mm thick in the winter and a hooded fullsuit that is 3-4mm thick during summer. You may also want to invest in some gloves and booties to keep those hands and feet warm and protected.
